22 Squadron RAAF, Douglas A-20G Boston, WW2, Framed Aircraft Profile Print
Dutch New Guinea, 1944
No. 22 Squadron was the only Australian combat unit to operate the Boston. It was during the desperate months of 1942, that the unit was first equipped with the Boston. The aircraft had been diverted from a Dutch delivery after the East Indies (Java) had fallen. The aircraft were later supplemented with USAAF ‘discards’ and in mid 1944, they began receiving A-20G Bostons.
A28-60 was the squadron commander’s aircraft (Squadron Leader Colin Woodman) from June 1944 until it was written-off after a Japanese raid on their airfield on Morotai in November 1944. The aircraft was named after his wife, Hilda, and son, Shane.
