RAAF Base Townsville, November 1969

RAAF 36 Squadron C130-A Hercules A97-207. Lockheed P2V-7 (SP-2H) Neptune’s from RAAF 10 Squadron.

Infantrymen from B Company, 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (2 RAR) wait while the C130-A Hercules (A97-207) from36 Squadron RAAF is prepared for the flight from RAAF Base Townsville to Brisbane in November 1969. After arrival in Brisbane the B Company soldiers were transported by bus to the Jungle Training Centre (JTC) at Canungra in South East Queensland.

The 4 weeks of tropical warfare training at Canungra was the beginning of intensive training to prepare the soldiers of 2RAR for service in South Vietnam. 2 RAR deployed from Townsville to South Vietnam in May 1970.
